Good for coming out of boredom

"Nothing special," you said in the comments, but I think you may have hit on something pretty special here. It seems you found a good way to utilize the chords here too, well done.

GronmonSE responds:

I think I have like 12 different chords here, but I could have played around with them some more.

Thanks though, always appreciate the feedback.

One small point

This would sound good in a side scrolling platform game, for sure, but I think a lot of people would be quick to mute it though.

Of course, that's easy to fix I think, perhaps make the constant percussive "sss" sound a bit more quiet and then you'll be good to go.

Other than that, good stuff.

SynthSky responds:

Ah yes it's just a loop.

It might graduate to a song someday, and then the mute button would not be pressed quite as often.

If it does become a song, I'll remember to soften the EQ on that "sss" a little bit.

I also think that a successful sidescroller soundtrack would be a lot more minimalistic, and a little longer.

Props

You've achieved a good balance between all the parts from high to low, and a near-perfect rise and fall in mood and dynamics throughout the entire song. Certainly a very fine piece of music. Have a 5 too.

Enzer0 responds:

Thanks man - I really wanted to have a peaful yet edgy feel to it. Like it meant something.

Damn dawg

I have no idea why so much of your stuff has a low rating around here. I should make a point to stop by every voting day and 5 star your music until they're all at least 4.00+ :P

This one in particular is quite good actually, and I'm rather envious of the various sounds you employed here.

And as for the drums... I don't know much (anything) about dance/house/trance drums, but my friend certainly helped me a lot in my drum composing when he told me, "most drums follow a similar pattern, no matter the genre"

So I took this to heart and did a strict regimen of snare on the off beats and fills (although I don't think I hear a "snare" here). I also made a constant stream of your cymbal sound of choice, and the variety in the drum part came from the bass line. In order to create this variety, I simply put random notes all up and down my shit (I kid you not) and it works most of the time, so long as the bass isn't too loud.

If you don't feel that such randomness is suitable for your music type, then instead try tapping your foot in a semi-rhythmic way for each part of your song and stick that as your bass line. Works for me, might work for you.

BTW, love your style of music and mannerisms on here :P Totally DGAF, but in a good way.

Damn good

Love the epic feel, and I'm very jealous of the sounds you have at your disposal. Tell me, what programs did you use to create this music? I've often dreamed of making music with a similar feel, but my score writers don't always seem to go far enough for me.

EvilRaccoon responds:

Hey FunkyPotat0! Thanks for your review. I listened to your compositions, and they are just as good!

The only thing I think lacks is maybe the mixing of it all. I'll PM you with a more indepth reply.

:)

Very nice

Everything comes in rather nicely from the start, and it all flows quite naturally. A good sense of flow is something that not many composers have, so good job to you for that much.

And you say that this is for a contest... If you could be so kind, what contest is this for?

WOW LOLZ

My heterosexuality is being assaulted by six dirty dicks in my mind.

Brilliant song mate, I can't believe you didn't bust out laughing while you recorded this.

Mad props for some mad music.

Have you ever heard of counterpoint? I'm not sure if you have, but I can tell that you use this method of music creation very well in this piece.

Also, I love how the song has neither a totally sad or happy feeling; it's a mixed bag of choral goodness.

5/5 rating to promote true skill here on Newgrounds!

JeffHeim responds:

I have heard of counterpoint. It's the relationship between 2 or more independent voices. Thank you...I use counterpoint in all my pieces :)
